from BASILIUS BESLER 1561 - 1629 "HORTUS HEYSTETTENSIS sive diligens et accurate omnium plantarum, florum, stirpium, et variis orbis terrae partibus, singular study collectarum" Nuremberg 1713, centennial edition. "Lilium Fatuum" Original etching with the text on the reverse as in all the runs after the first (Eichstatt 1613), bearing the monogram "DK" at the base of the leaf on the left, attributable to the engraver Dietrich Krueger (Hamburg 1575 - Rome 1624), this table is part of the Ordus dedicated to spring plants. Beautiful specimen printed on laid paper without watermark, with large unlaid margins beyond the imprint of the sheet, with various traces of rust prevalent at the edges where there are also some already recomposed tears, a vertical print fold on the upper central part of the sheet and another central fold is not particularly invasive, overall in good general condition with the typical watercolor coloring and tempera of the later period. This magnificent work was conceived to celebrate the beauty of the gardens of the residence of the Bishop of Eichstatt, Johann Conrad von Gemmingen, and saw for over ten years among the best designers and engravers of that period, gathered under the care of the well-known curator Basilius Besler botanist and pharmacist from Nuremberg. Bibliography: Hofmann - Zohl "Hortus Eystettensis" Heidelberg 2003 page 39. Littger “Der Garten von Eichstatt” Cologne 1999 tav.133. Nissen "Die Botanische Buchillustration" Stuttgart 1966.
